Biography
Deborah Dillehay is a fine artist in Lexington, Kentucky.
She is originally from the Louisville area; but moved to Lexington in the mid 80's
She was involved in artistic endeavors at a young age when she learned basics of drawing, perspective and oil-painting from her great-grandfather, Ross Hatch, a landscape painter.
She studied art at Eastern Kentucky University but was forced to leave school and take on a full time job due to family responsibilities.
Later she obtained a B.A. in Classical Civilizations from the University of Kentucky.
In the early 90's she combined her basic technical knowledge with the appreciation of ancient art gained from the study of classical art and
architecture and began to seriously pursue a vocation as a fine artist.
She continues to work and develop her style on a daily basis.
Deborah is also skilled in the crafts of knitting, crochet, beaded jewelry and tapestry weaving.
She is willing to take on commissioned work.
Artist's Statement
As a fine artist, I feel it is important to capture a moment of feeling.
I am inspired by the quick-painting technique of Vincent Van Gogh and
the poured all-over designs of Jackson Pollock.
I have developed a quick-pour technique that I feel helps me capture
the moment.
I believe in the Zen philosophy of painting quickly in an attempt to
bypass the mind and reach for the heart.
Deborah is a member of the Lexington
Art League.
