Metamorphosis of Identity
with works by Nina Buxenbaum, Gaela Erwin, and Chris Twomey

The exhibition Metamorphosis of Identity: Nina Buxenbaum, Gaela Erwin, and Chris Twomey presents explorations of identity created by three female artists.
The works of art included in this exhibition illustrate the importance of identity and how individual concepts of identity often change.
Gender identity is an often-discussed topic in today's culture.
This exhibition coincides with Women’s History Month, the theme of which is Women's Art: Women's Vision.
The Women's Studies Program of Georgetown College has organized other events that will take place through the month to explore this theme.

Each of the artists included in Metamorphosis of Identity uses portraits of women to show changes in identity, but they differ dramatically in their end results.
Brooklyn artist Nina Buxenbaum creates charcoal drawings in which different women are depicted as Topsy-Turvy dolls (a doll that has a white southern belle on one side and when she is turned over and her dress flipped, she reveals a black woman underneath).
Louisville artist Gaela Erwin's oil paintings and pastels include explorations of her own identity through self-portraits.
In these works, she depicts herself in the guise of various Christian saints and historical figures ~ female and male figures alike.
Digital photography, painting and video are interwoven by the artist Chris Twomey, who lives and works in New York.
Works from Twomey's Madonna Series, a group of artworks modeled after religious paintings of the Renaissance, will be on view.

The gallery is open Monday - Friday, noon - 4:30 pm;
Sunday 1:30 - 4:00 pm or by appointment.

Our big wall is empty and we are looking for an artist to hang art on consignment.
This wall soaks up 6 - 8 big pieces.
We really like bright and colorful (?abstract?) art on this wall.
In the past we have enjoyed (and have been spoiled by) seeing beautiful pieces by Bettina Dickerson, Claudia Miller and John Berry.
We post info on the art and artist on our website and can host an evening reception.
